Team Silverback traveled to Chicago for the weekend to compete at the IBJJF Chicago Spring Open. This tournament usually draws some good competition and this weekend supported that reputation.
Nick Baatz had a great showing, but came up short in the Master 1 Super Heavy Blue Belt division ending up in third place.
He signed up for the Open Division to further challenge himself. Competition is a great way to examine your game and learn from the experience, win or lose. Again, Nick performed well, but was outscored and landed in third place .
Jason Schmitt competed in the Master 2 Purple Belt Middleweight division. Winning his first match, which was a semifinal, put him into the championship match.
The final was well fought, but Jason could not secure the win and took second place.
He signed up for the open division. Again winning the semifinal match.
The final was another learning experience as Jason could not secure the victory. Placing second in the Open Division, gave him double silver for the day!
Joe Du Chateau tested himself in the Adult White Belt division. He had a great performance for his first time out. While he did not secure the win, he definitely gained a ton of experience in preparing for tournaments and actually competing!
